Various news reports have confirmed that former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw and his wife were recently involved in a three-car accident in which one person died. The motor vehicle accident occurred on a New York expressway at about 1:00 pm this past Friday. Mr. Brokaw and his wife, fortunately, were not injured in the accident.
The car-truck accident apparently was caused by evasive action taken by a female driver to avoid debris that had fallen from a truck. Apparently, a spool of wire had fallen from a truck, and a female driving an SUV swerved to avoid the debris and crashed into a United States Postal truck.
Mr. Brokaw and his wife, in their 2006 Volvo station wagon, were driving behind the postal truck and rear-ended the truck. Mr. Brokaw explained what happened in a statement released through NBC: “As the mail truck careened into the Brokaw lane, Tom hit the brakes hard and skidded along the median. When the mail truck catapulted the median, the Brokaw vehicle slid into it.”
The driver of the SUV was killed after slamming into the postal truck, which weighs about 7 tons. According to police, she was thrown through the driver’s side window of her 1998 Ford Expedition.
