Passen & Powell would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. Please keep in mind the following safety tips offered by the National Safety Council especially for the holidays:
DECORATING SAFETY
- Never place lighted candles near trees, curtains, or near any flammable material
- Keep small children away from holiday plants, such as mistletoe, holly berries, and amaryllis — such plants may be poisonous
- Keep your tree watered, so that it does not dry out and become more flammable
- Place tree away from heat sources, such as fireplaces
- Hang ornaments out of reach of small children
- If using an artificial tree, make sure it is fire resistant
- Use indoor lights only indoors, and outdoor lights only outdoors
- Turn off decorative lighting when you go to bed or leave the house
LADDER SAFETY
- Many holiday injuries involve falls while placing or removing decorations. Be sure to use a step stool or ladder to reach high places, rather than standing on chairs or furniture
- Be mindful of ladder placement
- When climbing ladder, always face the ladder and grip the rungs, not the side walls
- Use ladders with slip-resistant feet
- If using ladder outdoors, get down immediately if high winds or bad weather
HOSTING SAFETY
- Wash hands before preparing food, especially if contact with raw poultry
- Keep your knives sharp; dull blades actually cause most knife injuries
- Be mindful of alcohol consumption. More than half of all traffic facilities are alcohol-related.
Enjoy the holidays, and call Passen & Powell at 312-527-4500 if we can be of any assistance to you or your family.
